INTRODUCTION

The Great Wall of China is a series of fortifications made of stone, brick, wood, and other materials, generally built along east-to-west line across the historical northern borders of China to protect the Chinese states and empires againt the invasions of nomadic groups of the "Eusasian Steppe".

Other purposes of the Great Wall have included border controls, allowing the imposition of duties on goods transported along the Silk Road, regulation or encouragement of trade and the control of immigration and emigration.

HISTORY

The Great Wall of China, was built in the Quin dynasty, 200 years ago of Christ, with the objective to protect the village of the Mongolians attacks. The emperor Qin Shi Huangdi starts to build the wall that before mesures 7300km. 

They say that since V century to XVI century, the chinese protect the village with fortifications of the invasion of the nomadic people. Their principal purpose was to prevent that the invaders didn't brought caballeries with them. 

CHARACTERISTICS OF THE STRUCTURE

A) MATERIALS:
     
The materials that they used to build the great wall were taken of the neighbour territories.

Near Beijing they used the clacareous stone. For example the Cathedral of Girona it's made with   calcareous stone too.  In another places used granite or brick baked. 

This materials were very resistant to the arms.

B) SHAPE:

It has got the shape of arch, there are lots of steps.
 Along the wall, there are battlements in catalan "merlets", it has got defensive spaces of a bit more   than 30 centimetres of height and arround 23 centimetres of wide. 
   

C) TYPE OF STRUCTURE

Is a militar construction that it was used to protect the village. 

There weren't lots of problems to construct this building, but the wall was build by parts so the     
first part some years later it was old and this parts broke, and then they had to rebuild.

CURIOSITIES

• It's said that died between two and three million people during his construction. It's the longest project of the world, that lasted centuries. 
• it's belived that is the only construction made by the human that can be seen from the space.
• It's 21.196 km long. 
• In the antiquity,the Great Wall of China it was called Wall of the ten thousand Li. This name is refere of the lenght of the wall.  
• No one said " we are going to construct  the Great Wall of China"
